Policy and Program Development
The question often comes up, "What can we do to help diverse groups flourish?" Here at FSU, there are many groups seeking
solutions to this question:
- The College of Medicine has implemented a program called Science Students Together Reaching Instructional Diversity
and Excellence (SSTRIDE) which provides middle and high school students intervention and enhanced instruction to encourage
their interest and involvement in science and mathematics. These programs have been implemented in Leon, Gadsden, Madison,
and Okaloosa counties, and include participants who are underrepresented minorities, from disadvantaged backgrounds, or
rural settings. The students are enrolled in rigorous classes, provided tutoring, test-taking workshops, and laboratory
and clinical experiences. Each summer, students are invited to the College of Medicine for week long mini-medical school
experiences.

- The Center for Global Engagement has developed a special academic program bringing over 180 international students from
7 partner institutions to participate in an intensive 6-month program at FSU with an internship at Walt Disney World.
Curriculum focuses on intercultural communication and living and working in a supportive, diverse environment. FSU students
receive training to serve as Peer Mentors in this program.
