Job Families

Job classifications have been grouped into job families. The job classifications grouped into a job family all have the same nature of work, but require different levels of skill, effort, and responsibility. Grouping positions into job families allows employees to recognize possible career paths and encourages both upward and horizontal mobility. The thirteen University job families are:


Administrative Services

Positions provide administrative or professional support for departments, programs, divisions, and other organizational units. Individuals assigned to positions in this job family perform work directly related to business operations and administration to include human resources, management, and clerical support.

Athletic Services

Positions provide direction and support for intercollegiate athletic programs. Individuals assigned to positions in this job family coach, train, and provide support for student athletes, ticket sales, facilities and event operations.

Facilities and Grounds Services

Positions provide direction and support for campus facilities and grounds. Individuals assigned to positions in this job family perform skilled trades work, maintain campus landscaping, perform preventative maintenance, manage building or grounds services, coordinate construction projects, and ensure environmental health and safety compliance.

Budget and Financial Services

Positions provide financial support for budget and financial services. Individuals assigned to positions in this job family perform work related to accounting, budgeting, reconciliation, contract and grants management, and general fiscal assistance.

Cultural Arts Services

Positions provide direction and support for museum and cultural arts administration, exhibits, programs, and productions. Individuals assigned to positions in this job family support the arts, dance, music, theater, and museum operations.

Health and Human Services

Positions provide direction and support for human welfare and social programs or services. Individuals assigned to positions in this job family perform medical services and support psychological and health enhancement services.

Library Services

Positions provide direction and support for library and information services. Individuals assigned to positions in this job family are responsible for supporting library services and programs, which may include circulation, cataloging, acquisitions, and collections.

Media Relations, Communications, and Marketing Services

Positions provide direction and support for communication, marketing and information services. Individuals assigned to positions in this job family perform work involving media, communications, or marking services for departments or programs, which may include broadcast production, news and public affairs, marketing and publications.

Law Enforcement and Security Services

Positions provide direction and support for law enforcement and security services. Individuals assigned to positions in this job family perform sworn law enforcement duties; others enforce campus rules and regulations to ensure order, safety, and security.

Safety and Security Services

Positions provide direction and support for law enforcement, security services, and environmental health and safety. Individuals assigned to positions in this job family may perform sworn law enforcement duties; others enforcecampus rules and federal, state, and local laws and regulations to ensure a healthy, safe, and secure environment.

Scientific and Research Services

Positions provide direction and support for scientific and research activities. Individuals assigned to positions in this job family are responsible for supporting or conducting scientific research, instruction, and the collection, analysis, and reporting of data.

Student Services

Positions provide direction and support for student affairs programs and services including academic, cultural, social, and enrichment areas. Individuals assigned to positions in this job family provide assistance to students, parents, and staff to include enrollment management, housing, campus recreation, student activities, career development, and academic programs.

Technology Services

Positions provide direction and support for computer based information and communication systems. Individuals assigned to positions in this job family perform work related to technical support, programming and development, database administration, network communications and administration, and systems analysis.

University Leadership

Positions provide leadership and oversight in support of the University's mission. Individuals assigned to positions in this job family provide vision and strategic direction at the division level.
