F-1/J-1 Immigration Change

An important federal immigration change takes effect on September 15, 2026.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has published a final rule ending "Duration of Status" (D/S) for F-1 students, J-1 exchange visitors, and J-2 dependents. Beginning September 15, individuals admitted in F or J status will receive a fixed admission end date on their Form I-94, known as the "Admit Until Date."
No action is required currently. We are awaiting formal guidance from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) regarding the impact of this change on Form I-9 completion and reverification procedures. Once guidance is available, we will share additional instructions.
