Juneteenth and Independence Day Holiday Closures
This message to all faculty and staff has been approved by Renisha Gibbs, Associate Vice President for Human Resources and Finance & Administration Chief of Staff.
Florida State University will close for business and classes will not meet Wednesday, June 19, 2024, in observance of the federal Juneteenth holiday.
The university will also be closed Thursday, July 4, for Independence Day. Furthermore, President McCullough has approved Friday, July 5, as an additional day off in recognition of the hard work and many accomplishments of our dedicated faculty and staff.
Salaried employees (USPS, A&P, Executive Service, and Faculty) will receive these days as paid holidays, and no annual leave usage is required.
As is the case with any holiday that falls within an academic term, the university will be closed, but essential services (as determined by department heads) must continue. Salaried employees required to work on the holiday will be provided straight-time compensatory leave in accordance with university policy.
Human Resources will provide more detailed guidance for employees before the holiday, including confirmation of agreement with our faculty and staff unions.
