Response to City and County Stay-at-Home Order
This message to all faculty and staff has been approved by Renisha Gibbs, Associate Vice President for Human Resources and Finance & Administration Chief of Staff.
County and city officials announced yesterday at a joint press conference that a stay-at-home order has been issued for Tallahassee and Leon County effective today, March 25, 2020. Understandably, there may be questions about how this potentially impacts the University’s current practices in regard to mitigating the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus. In general, this stay-at-home order does not impact the University’s current practices.
The order advises that residents observe a curfew from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. unless participating in essential activities. Examples of essential activities were described as, “ensuring the health and safety of others, obtaining necessary supplies, engaging in work, taking care of others, and responsibly engaging in outdoor recreation.”
The order also advises to limit groups and gatherings to no more than ten people. The University has already communicated that all employees who can work remotely should do so. Guidance has also been provided for those who do report to work to practice social distancing. As such, the order does not change or impact our current practices.
As it stands, Florida State University’s business operations are in compliance with the stay-at-home order. Employees should continue to work remotely if able. If unable to work remotely, employees should still report to work and continue to practice social distancing.
