University Closed Additional Days for Independence Day Holiday
This message to all faculty and staff has been approved by Renisha Gibbs, Associate Vice President for Human Resources and Finance & Administration Chief of Staff.
In alignment with Gov. DeSantis’ announcement on June 12, 2026, to close state offices, Florida State University will close for business, and classes will not meet on Thursday, July 2, 2026, and Monday, July 6, 2026, in observance of America’s 250th Anniversary. These dates are in addition to the Independence Day holiday observed on Friday, July 3, 2026.
Salaried employees (USPS, A&P, Executive Service, and Faculty) will receive these days as paid holidays, and no annual leave usage is required.
While classes will not meet, faculty may prepare or post asynchronous online instructional materials. Any changes should be communicated to students before the closure, and students should monitor communications from their instructors.
As with any holiday within an academic term, the university will be closed, but essential services, as determined by department heads such as payroll processing and fiscal year-end close-out, will continue.
University personnel working with university-sponsored/supported programs, such as New Nole Orientation, summer camps, and other events, will be deemed essential and expected to fulfill their work responsibilities.
Department heads should provide notice to employees who will be deemed essential due to the business needs of the university. Salaried employees required to work these days will be provided straight-time compensatory leave per university policy. Please work with supervisors to review expectations and schedules.
Human Resources will provide more detailed guidance for employees before the holiday, including confirmation of agreement with our faculty and staff unions.
