Salon Salon: Discourse in Identity, Relationships, & Hair
Thursday, July 28, 2022
4:00 PM - 5:00 PM
“Salon Salon” is a gathering for *women to discuss identity and relationships through the vehicle of hair. Whether coiled and coiffed, cleanly shaven, or
capped beneath a headcovering, women and their hair (or lack thereof) has long-been a cultural conversation.
At the Salon, the “Salonniere” (i.e. moderator) will begin the event with opening remarks on the event’s hair-themed medium and propose questions for
thoughtful consideration in subsequent small group discussions. Before the end of the event, the Salonniere will reconvene the entire group for final reflections.
Salonniere: Stephanie Tillman
Pre-Event Discussion Item: Should We All Be Dopamine Dressing?
- Do you think the concept of "dopamine dressing" could also apply to hair/hairstyles/head coverings?
- Do you consider your mood when styling your hair or selecting a head covering?
- Have you ever considered what your hair/hairstyle/head covering says about you or what "messages" it may send to others? In the workplace?
*“women” is used as a self-defined term that is not limited to cis or binary identification.
Salon Salon is a part of the HR-EDI Office’s effort to foster a diverse, inclusive, and equitable campus community in alignment with the Diversity & Inclusion goal of the university’s strategic plan.
Salon Salon will alternate between virtual and in-person gatherings. For virtual gatherings, the Zoom link for the Salon Salon series is: https://fsu.zoom.us/j/9043776003.
