PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Leaders in Training (L.I.T. Program) – (this program replaces the former Frontline Supervision certificate)
Leaders and supervisors play an integral role in the overall success of Florida State University by communicating organizational needs, providing guidance and support, identifying development needs, and managing relationships between staff and the organization.
This energy-packed, cohort-based experience, designed for staff & faculty, provides leadership development to employees over eight weeks of immersive and interactive training. Training is delivered in a blended-learning format with engaging in-person and online asynchronous activities (schedule shown below). If you have the desire to improve your leadership skills and build relationships with other like-minded people across campus, then you’re encouraged to complete an application .

Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for Supervisors Implementation Lab & Digital Badge Awarded (In-Person) Various thought-provoking exercises, including multiple break-out sessions, will allow participants to share and brainstorm with their colleagues. In addition, just-in-time general training topics created as a result of the week six survey will be provided. |

Dates: May 9-10, 2023
- Engage with cohort participants through in-person facilitation of multiple leadership development topics. Explore the list of topics here.
- You will write a letter to your manager after the Bootcamp that details lessons learned and asks for their support in implementing strategies.
Dates: May 15-June 23, 2023
- Participate in an asynchronous learning period for six weeks as you apply strategies learned from the Bootcamp and engage with weekly videos and prompt-driven discussions.
Short videos will be emailed to participants during this six-week timeframe to provide reminders and tips for implementing learned strategies.
There will be one in-person "FSU Day," currently planned for May 22-26, 2023 (dates may change), to cover FSU-specific training topics, and the remainder of any time spent will be online this week.

- The Implementation Lab is customized training based on participants’ responses during week six and is built-in to address the requested knowledge and skills of the cohort.
- You will engage in thought-provoking exercises and break-out sessions and share how you have utilized learned skills, and discuss any challenges encountered.

Why Participate in L.I.T.?
- Gain a deeper understanding of the role and responsibilities of a leader/supervisor
- Learn and apply critical policies and procedures that are specific to Florida State University
- Develop a keen understanding of how the uniqueness of each employee impacts their work experience
- Identify key questions to ask employees to facilitate proactive developmental engagement
- Learn how to communicate clear expectations of behavior and results
- Provide clear, inspiring, legally defensible positive and constructive Feedback using the CAR (context, action, result) and CAR/AR (context, action, result, alternate action, alternate result) models
- Understand how to avoid the most common team problems, such as gossip, blaming, and perceptions of favoritism
APPLICATION STEPS
APPLICATION UPDATE: We are excited to have filled our first class of the L.I.T. program. It started off with an information-filled, two-day leadership boot camp. The next cohort/class will start on May 9th. If you are interested in participating, please complete the application found on this page. It has been made available now to provide adequate time for both you and your manager to complete the necessary information. We will only accept official applications submitted between April 3rd through April 21st. The program filled very quickly this last time, so it is important to get your application in as soon as possible, after applications open on April 3rd. The class fills with approximately 20 participants. Please note that your manager also needs to complete a portion of the application, so please plan that into your timeline. Review the outline and commitment related to successful completion of the program, prior to application. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
