The annual retirement planning seminar for 2023 was held last spring via live webinars presented by the Florida Retirement System. The sessions held for FSU employees were not recorded. However, many informative webinars are currently available on the MyFRS website. Additional descriptions are listed below.
Using the FRS to Plan for Your Retirement - This workshop provides an overview of the FRS and helps you understand the nuts and bolts of planning for your retirement. You will leave the workshop with a full understanding of the ongoing financial planning resources available to you as a member of the FRS.
Nearing Retirement in the FRS - This workshop focuses on discussing practical issues important for those nearing retirement. Topics include setting retirement goals, including income needs, and understanding your sources of retirement income, including FRS plans and Social Security.
Protecting Yourself and Your Loved Ones - This workshop is designed to assist you in understanding the importance of protecting yourself and your entire family. The workshop will answer questions on how FRS and Social Security benefits affect your survivors, why you should have a will, living will, power of attorney, and other essential estate documents.
Investment Planning - This workshop provides a six-step process for managing your investments. This workshop will also help you make sound investment decisions with the assistance of the MyFRS Financial Guidance Line and the Advisor Service.
Education Planning - This workshop will help you estimate the costs of education and identify ways to pay for schooling. Whether your child is near or far from beginning their higher education, this workshop will help you identify the costs associated with college, ways to pay for them, and understand the financial aid application process.
Taking Control of Your Finances: 60 Minutes - This workshop provides a four-step process for managing your income, expenses, and debts. You will leave the workshop with a full understanding of the ongoing financial planning resources available to help you take control of your finances and budget your way to a secure financial future.
Taking Control of Your Finances: 90 Minutes - This workshop is designed to help evaluate your current spending habits and create a plan to help accomplish your financial goals. You will leave the workshop with a full understanding of the ongoing financial planning resources available to help you reduce debt, manage your credit, and budget your way to a secure financial future.
Income Tax Planning - This tax planning workshop will help you understand the basics of the Federal tax form 1040, help you learn ways to reduce your taxable income, and even exclude some income from tax altogether!
Understanding the FRS Investment Plan - This workshop provides information on all aspects of the FRS Investment Plan, including plan features, payment options, investment fund choices, and the tools available to help you with your investment selections.
Social Security and Your Retirement - This workshop will walk you through the basics on how to qualify for a benefit, how to obtain and understand benefit estimates, and the rules for the taxation of benefits. You will also receive guidance on deciding when to start collecting.
FRS Retirement Seminar - Retirement planning is a life-long process, one that begins on the day you start working and continues until the end of your life. During the seminar, we will review your sources of retirement income, including Social Security and the FRS Pension and Investment Plans. You will leave the seminar knowing which steps to take next and what tools and resources are available to assist you.
Understanding Your Benefits under the FRS Pension Plan - This workshop provides an explanation of benefits under the FRS Pension Plan, as well as useful information in preparation for retirement from the FRS Pension Plan.
Group Health Insurance - The Continuing State Group Insurance Benefits as a Retiree presentation will provide members retiring from a State agency with information on available health plans as a retiree, monthly premiums, savings and spending accounts, surviving spouse coverage, and making health insurance changes after retirement.
