All positions/appointments being rehired requiring background checks (per the Criminal History Background Check Questionnaire within either the Job Opening or Job Offer) are required to have new background checks completed if they are:
- Terminated in OMNI HR for 31+ days
- Returning OPS (excluding GAs) with 90+ day gap of funding
- Terminated in OMNI HR for <31 days and if a same or higher level check was not completed within the last year
- If a same or higher level check was completed within the last year, no new check will be required.
- Returning Volunteers with 90+ day break of volunteer service
TIMING
"Your job offer is contingent upon your successful completion of the University's onboarding process before your start date, which may include a criminal history background check as well as compliance with State and University requirements."
- If a Background Check is required, favorable results and approval must be received from the Office of Human Resources before the start of employment for all appointments (AEX, Faculty, A&P, USPS, OPS, and Graduate Assistants).
- Employment may be offered provided that the following contingent language is included in the offer letter:
- Unless pre-approved by the Chief Human Resources Officer, Human Resources will not conduct a Criminal History Background Check more than 120 days (4 months) before an employee's effective date.
Criminal History Background Checks are required for former employees and volunteers as outlined below:
Rehire Faculty, A&P, & USPS | If terminated in OMNI HR for 31+ days or, if less than 31 days, if same level check was not completed within the last year. |
Rehire OPS (excludes GAs) | If terminated in OMNI HR for 31+ days, or, if less than 31 days, if same level check was not completed within the last year, or if unfunded for 90+ days AND the duties of the position warrant it (reference the Former Employees/Volunteers Section II.B.3.a. & b of Criminal History Background Check Policy 4-OP-C-7-B11) |
Rehire GAs | If terminated in OMNI HR for 31+ days, or, if less than 31 days, if same level check was not completed within the last year AND the duties of the position warrant it (reference the Former Employees/Volunteers Section II.B.3.a. & b of Criminal History Background Check Policy 4-OP-C-7-B11) |
Reappointing a Volunteer | If break in volunteer service for 90 days or more AND the duties of the volunteer role warrant it (reference the Former Employees/Volunteers Section II.B.3. of Criminal History Background Check Policy 4-OP-C-7-B11) |
