Criminal History Background Checks conducted by the Office of Human Resources for employment, volunteer service, or vendor/contractor work are reconciled with the hiring department via Auxiliary AR/Billing Purchase Orders. To create a Purchase Order for your department for Background Checks, please see this Office of the Controller’s Auxiliary AR/Billing Training Guide. To update an existing Purchase Order please complete an Internal Purchase Order Change Request Form.
Background Check costs are subject to change due to fee changes from the FBI, FDLE, or fees incurred from other local city, county, state, or federal laws. The background check auxiliary does not generate revenue for The Office of Human Resources.
Pursuant to University Policy 4-OP-D-1.II.C.2.b costs charged to sponsored contracts & grants apply to a separate rate schedule; however, any additional fees associated with these individual screenings will be included. For additional information please see the Sponsored Regulations Page.
Listed “Standard Rate” becomes effective for all background checks conducted after October 1, 2023. Until then “Previous Rate” is in effect.

Required statutory fees vary by location and are unique to each candidate’s address history. Previous package rates included an estimate for these fees; however, the unpredictability of this variable created the need to adjust our package prices. The new rate structure may result in varying fees for each candidate’s background check at the department level; however, the changes will also lead to lower departmental costs for close to 70% of packages processed where statutory fees do not apply. Please see the current list of applicable statutory and county fees for reference.
